Cresco, Iowa -

Not too long ago, I spoke with Mrs. Balk’s junior high classes on city government. It was also an opportunity to talk with the students about being an active part of the community where they live today and where they will live in the future. I believe this applies to all of us in today’s world. Volunteers are the key to the success of any project and to the success of the community in which you live.
Our Chamber of Commerce is always looking for volunteers; our churches, our schools, our clubs and organizations are always in need of helping hands. If each of us donated only a few hours, do you know what a difference it could make? I would ask each of you to please consider being a volunteer and donating time in the months to come to a project or an activity. And, even better, do it as a family. Let’s teach our children to be the next generation of volunteers, and let them experience the reward of helping to make things happen.
On May 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Northeast Iowa Volunteer Expo will be held at the Expo building at the Howard County Fairgrounds in Cresco. Take time that day to attend and see all the outstanding volunteer groups we have in Northeast Iowa. Hopefully, you will find one or many that you would like to be a part of.
Call the Chamber of Commerce at 563-547-3434 to find out what you can do to help, or call me at 563-547-4606, and together we can work on projects to build a better community.
