Cresco, Iowa -

    A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary E. Bouril of Cresco was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2008 at Notre Dame Church in Cresco, IA. with Rev. Richard J. Ament officiating. Gifts were carried by Tammy Doud, Amy and Curt Bouril, eucharistic minister was Marlene Ferrie, organist was Suzanne Ollendick, and cantor was Pam Daley. Pallbearers were: Curt Bouril, Jeremy Doud, Peter Zancolli, Casey Lehman, Don Ferrie, and Dan Knight. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco, IA.
    Conway Funeral Home in Cresco, IA handled the arrangements.
    Mary, 91, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Cresco Care Center where she had made her home for the last 15 months.
    Mary Ellen Bouril was born December 4, 1916, in Cresco, IA, the daughter of John and Lottie (Barnes) McDermott. She was raised in Cresco and graduated from the Assumption High School. During WWII, Mary lived and worked in Milwaukee, WI at a munitions plant.
    In October, 1944, she married Robert Bouril. To this union two children were born: John and Gerald. After their marriage, they lived in Milwaukee, they moved to LaCrosse, WI, returning to Cresco to live in the early 1950's. After moving to Cresco, Mary worked as a cook at several locations until opening her own restaurant in 1960. She owned and operated the Country Kitchen Restaurant until her retirement. She was a member of the Notre Dame Parish and its Rosary Society.
    She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: John and Sue Bouril of Denver, CO, and Jerry and Dianne Bouril of Eldridge, IA; four grandchildren: Tammy Doud and Holly Schroeder of Denver, CO, Amy Bouril and Curt Bouril of New York City, NY; and three great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, on May 9, 1960; two brothers: J.T. McDermott and Paul McDermott.
