Funeral services for Edward S. Riha will be held at 11:00 a.m., today, Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Conway Funeral Home in Cresco, IA. Rev. Richard J. Ament will officiate. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Protivin, IA.
Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22 at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco, IA.
Conway Funeral Home in Cresco, IA handled the arrangements.
Edward, 76, died Saturday, April 19, 2008.
Edward Stanley Riha was born on September 3, 1931 the son of Frances Landa Riha and Anton Riha. He grew up on a farm near Protivin, IA.
He was drafted into the Army in 1953 and served two years. After he returned home, Edward met Mae Anne Thayer and they were wed. They had four children.
For many years, Edward was self-employed by owning and operating the local roller skating rink, moving houses and doing some hot rolled roofing.
In 1986, Edward and Mae Anne separated.
Edward continued to be active moving houses and running Ed's Roller Rink. He later retired in Cresco where he enjoyed spending time with his family and riding his bike up town for coffee.
Recently, in December of 2007, his health declined and he had been fighting a few illnesses.
He is survived by three children: Laine Riha and friend Shanna Gobbo of Cresco, IA, John Riha of Mason City, IA and Toni (Brian) Vrieze of Cresco, IA; eight grandchildren: Amanda (Larry) Griffin of Rochford, IL, Jessica Riha and Heather Riha of Cresco, IA, Danielle Riha and Kyle Wrange of Thompson, IA, Taylor Vrieze, Jordan Vrieze and Brady Vrieze of Cresco, IA; and two sisters: Mabel Folstad of Decorah, IA and Delores (Clint) Sinclair of Spring Grove, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Virgil Riha; and one daughter: Shirley Ann Riha in infancy.
