Richard Daniel Kerian, 85

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -  Richard Daniel Kerian passed away peacefully in his sleep of heart failure on Nov. 15, 2016. A memorial service and interment was held on Nov. 18, 2016 by Father Tom Montelaro at Davis Memorial Park, Las Vegas, Nev. 
He was born Aug. 19, 1931 in Grafton, N.D. to Joseph B. and Adella (Klimesh) Kerian. He graduated from Rudolphinum High School, in Protivin, Iowa in 1949. He worked at the Protivin Locker and at Leonard Tupy's farm before entering the Navy in May 1951. 
Richard took Basic Training at San Diego, Calif., then at Jacksonville, Fla. for Naval Air Training and then on to Memphis, Tenn. for Electronic Training. After training he was assigned to VP-24, a multi-engine aircraft Squadron that patrolled the East Coast, and also two winters in Argentina, Newfoundland and a six-month overseas combined tour at Port Lyautey, French Morocco, Africa and the Island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea. He maintained the electronic, radio and radar systems aboard the aircraft. He was discharged in May 1955.
Richard married Marianne Jean Zegray on June 18, 1955 in Scotch Plains, N.J. He obtained an Associates Degree in Applied Sciences from Capital Radio Engineering Institute in 1957 and then went to work for Honeywell (Computer Division) at Boston, Mass., and after 17 years transferred to Honeywell Marine Systems in West Covina, Calif. He retired after 35 years with Honeywell in 1993, when he and his wife moved to Las Vegas.
Richard loved spending his retirement years golfing, fishing, bowling and especially being a tour guide to his family and friends who visited his Las Vegas home. He also enjoyed his hobby of baking kolaches and fruit cake. 
Richard is survived by four children, Richard (Carol), of Upland, Calif., Donald of Las Vegas, Ken (Janeen) of Las Vegas and Patti (Dan Hass) of Longwood, Fla.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Gerald of Winters, Calif; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kerian of Ocean Twp., N.J., Geraldine Kerian of Waverly, Iowa and Judy Kerian of Cresco, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marianne in 1999; his parents, Joseph B. and Adella (Klimesh); sister, Dorothy Praska; and four brothers, Stanley, Daniel, Bernard and Joseph J.
