Cresco - Loel Lienhard, age 67, of Cresco, Iowa, passed away at his home on Oct. 25, 2018.
Memorial services will be on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Cresco Community Chapel in Cresco with burial in New Oregon Cemetery, rural Cresco. Friends may call on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Lindstrom Funeral Home and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church.Loel Alan Lienhard was born Aug. 27, 1951 in Cresco to Travis and Mildred ‘Dolly’ (Hovey) Lienhard. He graduated from Crestwood High School in May 1969. He enjoyed playing sports during his high school career.
Loel was married to Gertrude “Trudie” (Stevenson) Henderson in September 1978. Gertrude was already the mother of Jodi and Jack, The couple became the parents of Billi, Amy and Andrew. Trudie later passed away in 2004 from breast cancer. Loel was employed by the City of Cresco from 1975 to 2010, with most of his time being in the waste water treatment plant.
In his younger days, Loel enjoyed years of participating in several different sports from wrestling, softball, fishing, bowling and of course hunting. In his later years, he traded in the uniforms for a spectator’s seat. He enjoyed watching his children play numerous sports throughout their childhood and high school careers. Even his great-nieces and nephews’ sporting careers kept his passion for sports alive.
Most of Loel’s time was enjoyed with family and numerous friends. He devoted 20 years to teaching hunters safety classes at the Wildlife Club. He was a simple man who had the capability of befriending anyone who gave him 10 minutes of their time. Loel was a stubborn man, but a loving dad, brother, grandpa, uncle and friend to many.
Loel is survived by his children, Billi (Barry) Johnson of Lime Springs, Iowa, Amy (Jesse) Mauer of Rochester, Minn., Andrew (Ashten Frana) of Cresco, Jodi Henderson of Minneapolis, Minn. and Jack (Lisa) Henderson of Kasson, Minn.; five grandchildren, Kaylee and Thomas Johnson, Carly Henderson and Hudson and Alexis Mauer; and two brothers, Lindsey (Linda) of Cresco and Louis (Lisa) of Cresco; along with many nieces and nephews, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Loel was preceded in death by his wife, Trudie; his parents, Dolly and Travis; a brother, Larry; and a younger sister, Lillian, who died in infancy.
