Jerome was born on October 1, 1924, in Lourdes, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Urban) Nibaur. He was baptized and confirmed in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church by Father Fredrick Renier. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes school, completing the tenth grade. He then stayed at home to help on the family farm. Jerome had plans to attend college, but since he didn’t graduate from high school, he completed his two years of schooling by correspondence thanks to the assistance from one of the Sisters from Lourdes. In 1947, he enrolled at BVC in Storm Lake, graduating with a major in chemistry. For the next 30 years, Jerome taught math and science in schools in Minnesota and Iowa.
After retirement, Jerome enjoyed gardening, traveling with his brother, Clair, throughout the U.S. One of Jerome’s most memorable memories was traveling to Rome, where he had the honor to shake hands with Pope John Paul II.
Jerome was very active in church activities, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, sacristan, lector, CCD instructor, and taking communion to the homebound and nursing home residents.
Jerome is survived by his nephew David (Patti) Drtina and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Claude (Helen), Leonard, Clarence, Clair; one sister, Helen (George) Drtina, and two nephews Clayton (Jan) Nibaur and Richard (Sonia) Drtina.
Memorials in memory of Jerome, may be given to a local organization of one's choice.
