Cresco - James Elder, age 78, passed away at Regional Health Services on April 25, 2018.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, May 3, 2018 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, Iowa. Graveside services will follow at Phillips Cemetery in Bonair, Iowa.
James was born Nov. 19, 1939, the son of Robert and Lovina Elder, in Howard County, Bonair community. He spent his early years attending the local country school but was unable to learn academic subjects due to a congenital brain birth defect. He could converse and was physically capable until mid life.
When his parents sold the family farm and moved to Lime Springs in the 1960s, James went to live at Howard Residential Care Facility, where he remained until failing health resulted in moving to Evans Memorial Home, where he spent the rest of his life.
Jim enjoyed music and had a good memory for faces during his earlier years. His few joys in life involved food and his fondness for Copenhagen.
He is survived by his sister, Lois Amundson of Ridgeway; sister-in-law Vivian Elder of rural Ridgeway; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
