New Hampton - Eugene Schultz Sr., age 94 of New Hampton, Iowa passed away on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton, with Father Brian Dellaert celebrating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in New Hampton.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton with a 7:30 p.m. Scriptural Wake Service. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral mass on Friday. Online condolences for Eugene’s family may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com. Eugene Charles Schultz Sr. was born on the family farm in Chickasaw County to Walter and Harriet (Johnston) Schultz on Nov. 9, 1922. He attended rural school and helped on the family farm.
Eugene was united in marriage to Ruth Breitbach on Nov. 14, 1945 at St. Patrick’s Church in Jerico, Iowa. The couple farmed near New Hampton for one year and then in the Cresco area for 12 years, where they attended Assumption parish. In 1960, they moved to a farm south of New Hampton where they farmed until 1971 and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Upon his retirement, Eugene worked for Reicks Construction and from 1974 to 1985 as a custodian for the New Hampton School District. He also drove school bus for 20 years, retiring in 1985. The couple moved from the family farm in 1998 to Smith Estates in New Hampton.
Eugene lived for his children and grandchildren, helping out, attending sporting events and various other activities.
Eugene is survived by his children, Eugene Jr. (Mary Jane) Schultz of New Hampton, Ralph (Joan) Schultz of Fredericksburg, Iowa, Janet (Jim) Gorman of New Hampton, Julie (Jim) Eckenrod of New Hampton, Kathy (Bill) Shekleton of New Hampton, Charles (Jane) Schultz New Hampton, Patty (Randy) Lenehan of New Hampton, Michael (Sue) Schultz of St. Louis, Mo. and Gary (Michele) Schultz of Waverly, Iowa; 34 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Ihlenfeldt of Waterloo, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth, on Aug. 7, 2015; his daughter-in-law, Pat Schultz; his son-in-law, Tim Volk; grandchildren, Jennifer Schultz and Jerod Schultz; great-grandchild, Joseph Waller; his brothers, Lee and Arthur Schultz; and sister, Elaine Meyerhoff.
