Cedar Falls - Deborah “Deb” Purdy, age 60, of Cedar Falls, Iowa died Tuesday, Jan, 8, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 14, 2019 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls on Sunday, Jan. 13 from 2-4 p.m. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Cedar Falls.
Deb was born on June 18, 1958 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Beverly (Aspel) Hyke. She married Joseph Purdy on Jan. 1, 1997 in Cedar Falls.
She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1976 and was employed as a CNA and CMA with the Western Home Communities – Standard Assisted Living. She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church.
Deb was a fan of Waterloo Black Hawks Hockey, enjoyed crafting, jigsaw and word puzzles, James Patterson books, the Hallmark Channel, flowers, gardening and camping.
Her father, Charles, was from Cresco, Iowa and was a well-known Cresco High School athlete and state champion wrestler in 1948.
Deb is survived by her husband; two daughters, Megan Olmstead of Waterloo and Tiffany Olmstead of Cedar Falls; one grandson, Cayden Kressley; two sisters, Judy (Steve) McBride of Colfax, Iowa and Sharon (Tommy) Vieth of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and father-in-law, Richard Purdy of Cedar Falls. Other survivors include her cousins, Bernice Ollendieck of Cresco and Shirley Berglund of Greenwood Village, Colo., formerly of Cresco.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Beverly Ann Hyke; a nephew, Justin McBride; and mother-in-law, Eunice Purdy.
