Cresco - Arletta Rose, age 88, of Cresco, Iowa died at Accura Healthcare on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Father Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Arletta Irene Rose was born in Cresco, Iowa on June 21, 1930, the daughter of Frederick and Rose (Kapler) Grimm. She attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School and graduated from Cresco High School in 1948. After high school, she worked for a local attorney as a legal secretary. On April 20, 1954, she was united in marriage to Gerald Rose at St. Joseph’s Church in Cresco. On Feb. 12, 1982, she was appointed to the Cresco City Council until 1989, when she ran for mayor. Arletta served as the mayor of Cresco for 12 years, making a total of 20 years in city government. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and did Altar care for many years.
Arletta was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Hospital Auxiliary, Howard County Residential facility and served two terms on the Notre Dame School Board. Her hobbies included collecting salt and pepper shakers and tending to her garden, especially her roses, which were her favorite flower. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Arletta is survived by her husband Gerald; two sons, Jim (Tammy) Rose of Centerville, Iowa and Joe (Lynn) Rose of Cresco; one daughter, Sharon (T.J.) Shields of Lakeville, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Pam Rose of Springville, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and one sister-in-law, Juanita Grimm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Stephen Rose; five brothers, Joe Grimm, Bernard Grimm, George Grimm, Sylvester Grimm and Ray Grimm; and four sisters, Agnes Grimm, Helen Grimm, Wilma Tupy and Cecilia Scanlon.
