Elma, Iowa -

Colonial Manor Nursing Home is collaborating with The University of Iowa College of Nursing on a special project aimed at working on issues in the lives of residents of nursing homes.
Nurse researchers, Janet Specht, Paula Mobily and Ann Bossen are studying educational techniques on the best ways to use new research based strategies that are most effective in helping residents with pain management and control of urine. Some nursing homes are acting as control sites while others in the study are “intervention” sites.
During the yearlong study, staff at the intervention sites will be provided training on the issues presented by experts in the field. After the year of study, the control sites will have an opportunity to receive the same training. During the year, staff from all facilities who consent to do so will fill out surveys. Some resident information will be collected from those who consent, to determine if there is an impact on outcomes.
For more information about the study contact ann-bossen@uiowa.edu, or call 319-335-7136.
