Cresco, Iowa -

Adam Newman of Lime Springs has filed papers to run for Howard County Sheriff in the upcoming election.
Newman, originally from southeast Iowa, said he’s “definitely the underdog ... the dark horse” candidate in this election, but he believes his down-to-earth nature and connectedness to the county’s residents would benefit him if elected sheriff.
“I can bring some new perspective and change to the sheriff’s department,” he said.
Newman’s five years of experience in the U.S. Navy’s short patrol, the navy’s version of military police, would also provide him with the necessary experience to do the job, he said.
“I’m ready and willing to assume the responsibility,” he said.
Newman owns Trophy Hunter Taxidermy in Cresco. He also owns the M&M Lounge with his wife, Melissa Newman. He and his wife have three children: Haley, 7, Chase, 6, and Cain, 2.
