A fire broke out June 11 after lightning struck a Riceville house.
The house, located near the intersection of 140th St. and Bell Ave., caught on fire after a lightning bolt struck the roof around 1:30 p.m.
The house, owned by Trent and Janet Linkenmeyer, was uninhabited, and no one was inside the house when the lightning hit. No one was injured in the fire.
The roof had collapsed by the time the Riceville Fire Department arrived on the scene, according to Riceville Fire Chief Lyle Eastman. The house was considered a total loss.
The Riceville Fire Department was on the scene for about two and a half hours, fighting the fire in heavy rain.
Mutual aid was provided by the Elma Fire Department.
