McGuire pleads guilty to cyberstalking

CEDAR RAPIDS - Michael Shawn McGuire, 57 of Cresco, pled guilty to cyberstalking between Aug. 25, 2018 to May 25, 2019.
He confessed in federal court to using Facebook and the mail to harass and intimidate another person. In addition McGuire had posted yard signs at his victim’s home, which were explicit and contained the victim’s name, telephone number, address and e-mail address.
He also sent sexually explicit photos of his victim to the victim’s friends and family in the mail and through Facebook. Fake dating profiles were made in the victim’s name.
McGuire faces up to 20 years in federal prison when he is sentenced. No date has been set.
The case was also investigated by the Minnesota Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, the Willmar, Minnesota Police Department, the Litchfield Minnesota Police Department, the Minnesota Renville County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office, the Cresco, Iowa Police Department, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
