CRESCO - Dough & Joe Bakery, owned by Steve and Molly Pedretti, is recognized as an Outstanding Business, earning the designation at the recent Cresco Chamber of Commerce and Cresco Industrial Development Corporation banquet.
Molly said, “It was awesome to win the award. I was very excited and proud of Steve; it’s very well deserved. Our community has been so supportive of us. We have a very close-knit community and could not think of a better place to operate our bakery.”
Dough & Joe Bakery has had two incarnations in Cresco: The Pedretti’s operated the bakery at a previous location downtown and on Aug. 13, 2006, Dough & Joe reopened under the same ownership at its current location at 114 North Elm Street.
Dough & Joe has won several awards, including being named number seven of Iowa’s Top 10 Bakeries. Customers visit locally and travel from a distance to enjoy the homemade goods, fresh daily.
“Our customer favorites include the chai latte and cream-filled long johns,” Molly said. “We have done so many weddings this past year, with lots of doughnuts.”
The cream-filled long johns are legendary among Dough & Joe’s customers: A couple from Colorado requested the delectable treats in place of a wedding cake.
Additional items offered at Dough & Joe include cookies, pastries, muffins, bread, buns and cakes. Enjoy specialty coffees, espresso, steamers and lattes or take whole-bean coffee to go, and don’t forget to pick up some fruit cake for the holidays. Customers may request special orders, as well.
Steve brings a lifetime of experience in baking to create pastries, cookies and other treats at Dough & Joe.
“Steve started working in his father’s bakery (in Elkader) at a young age,” Molly said. “He comes to work at around 8 p.m. and stays overnight until 7:30 a.m. or so.”
Molly thanks the staff at Dough & Joe for always offering customers a friendly face.
“I especially like the experience (our staff) offers the customers and of course, we couldn’t do what we do without our exceptional staff,” said Molly. “Our customers are like family to us.”
